Idaho Celebrates School Choice Week: 2017
In honor of National School Choice Week, January 22-28th, we are celebrating educational choice in Idaho. Educational choice is simply the ability to choose a school. It might be a religious school, a private school, a virtual (online) school, a charter school or even another public school in the same or different district than the one you’re assigned to. It might also mean home schooling.
The growth of educational choice options gives Idaho families the freedom to choose the best educational environments and options for their children. Currently, 1 in 5 Idaho students are enrolled in educational choice options, including Charter, Private, Magnet, & Home Schooling.
On Monday, January 23, 2017 supporters of educational choice in Idaho will join us to host School Choice Day at the Capitol. Idaho Charter School Network and our partners will be taking over the first floor rotunda of the Idaho Capitol Building all day Monday. This is your opportunity to celebrate Educational Choice and share the importance of the continued support for choice programs in Idaho. Over 11,000 Idaho students and their families are interested, yet unable, to utilize Idaho’s educational choice programs. We will need everyone’s help, advocacy, and support to make sure that every child has access to educational choices and a high-quality education.
Educational choice advocates can join us in talking about school choice and student groups can share projects they’re working on and why they love their school.
We’ll have snacks & drinks, the signature yellow scarves, and a letter of support for school choice for everyone to sign. School Choice Day at the Capitol is a fun and educational way to introduce students to the workings of state government and the legislative process.
School Choice Week is the perfect time to schedule Captiol building tours with your students and to meet your local legislators. Guided tours are available for students 3rd grade or higher and groups of 5-50 (we recommend groups smaller than 20). Call 332-1012 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a guided tour. To meet with your legislator, make an appointment directly with them. To identify your legislators, visit Who’s My Legislator.
