Supporting the State Coalition of Charter School Associations’ Amicus Brief Regarding the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s Decision on Religious Charter Schools

WHEREAS, the Idaho Charter School Network (the “Organization”) is committed to supporting Idaho’s public charter school sector and promoting the rights of students and families to access high-quality education; and

WHEREAS, State Charter School Associations have filed an amicus curiae brief in support of the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s decision declaring religious charter schools unconstitutional, asserting that public charter schools are in fact public schools and can be funded as such; and

WHEREAS, the Organization believes that supporting this amicus brief further strengthens the legal and educational framework for public charter schools, ensures the integrity of charter schools by affirming they are in fact public, and preserves the rights of students and families; and

WHEREAS, the Organization supports all forms of school choice including tax dollars going to private and religious schools through funding mechanisms such as Education Savings Accounts and vouchers; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Idaho Charter School Network hereby supports the National Alliance’s amicus curiae briefregarding the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s decision, and authorizes the Organization’s public endorsement, and allocating up to $10,000 in support, of this position in line with the principles of maintaining access and funding for public charter schools;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board directs the Board Chair of the Organization to communicate this support to the National Alliance and any other relevant parties, and to take any further actions necessary to ensure the effective communication of this resolution.

This resolution was approved by the Board of Directors of the Idaho Charter School Network by an 8-0 vote to a duly convened meeting on February 12, 2025.
